Watching butterflies go by
Wishing for another life
As they melt in the rain
They cannot help themselves
And I want to give them wings
So they don't have to crawl
Step outside to join them
Letting pity draw me in
I wish it wasn't so damn hard
To tell them no
Sometimes I hear them,
Scratching at my door,
"Let us in again!"
Sometimes I've gotta
Do them in
Watch them burn away
Broken windows in their eyes
Turn the world into a lie
Bleeding hearts in the rain
Naïve visions eat their heads
Great ambitions... A hellish nightmare...
Now I watch them out there
The snow and cold wears them thin
I wish it wasn't so damn hard
To let them go
Now let's watch parades go by
Grim and empty, lost dreams and memories
Pack of cards lost in the rain
Down the gutter, forgotten once again
